Hamilton Beach 54615 Wavestation Express Dispensing Blender with 48-Ounce Jar, Black
I bought this mixer about a year ago from Wal-Mart. I've had a number of mixers in the last 30 + years but always ended up giving them away because I rarely or never used them - too much trouble - and has this to get rid of unused stuff, but to find another excuse why I "need" to buy another blender. I did it only for smoothies. My sister convinced me that they were good for me, but I was not about to pay $ 3-4 a pop for a smoothie. I would do all the research, but saw this blender at Wal-Mart and just liked what it saw and liked the price, around $ 18 at the time. I thought the spout thingee was nice, but I was really blown away by the 500 watts in this thing. I figured how bad could it be with 500 watts. If it blew out after the cover price of 4-5 smoothies, it would be okay I think. I'm not a technical person, but after comparing the efficacy of this with the other on the screen, I thought, what have I to lose?
It is plastic, very light and easy to move around. It works for me. Sooo easy to clean and take apart when they carry out a thorough cleaning. Immediately after use, I wash it, fill it less than half full with warm water and a drop of liquid detergent, to keep the lid down and give it a few swirls on the pulse. Remove and shake it around to get clean, rinse again and make sure I open the spout to allow it to drain. If you do not clean it right away, you have to scrub it clean. You can disconnect the pipe and replace it with a screw cap at the bottom of the base, if you do not want to use the spout. My smoothies are so thick now I just pour it out.
The first few times I used it, I smelled burnt rubber but I can push this as far as filling it with ice and everything else I want and do it as fast as I can, with the setting that gives me the fastest results, pulse or smoothie or something else. Again, I like this blender so much I figure I will replace it immediately if I blow and it's not under warranty. So far so good. (There is a 3-year warranty.)
No more burnt rubber, although I still fill it with ice and a mixture of everything. I read "Green for Life", so I added greens, celery, carrots and other vegetables, chia seeds gel, flax seed, a little honey, etc., for my juice and mix fruit, both frozen bananas and other fresh and frozen fruit, all these things at once. Delicious! My husband did not like vegetables, add in the beginning but now he is really looking forward to them almost every day or every other day now. The mixer works like a charm. It does not pulverize the green (spinach or romaine lettuce) 100%. There is a small amount of greens that do not get chopped up - but just little bits that are not as noticeable, and worth the price for a higher price, "better" mixer, because none of them get five-star ratings yet, and my work enough me to fit my needs. No problem at all with ice. It just got stuck on me once but I turned it off and pushed around with the wooden spoon and it's been good to go. Now if I can remember, I put ice cubes in the juice, which is first. Sometimes I put them in the past.
I'm not so easy to please, but I am very pleased with this mixer. There is still a pleasure to use. I'll send one to my son for his bday.
